ON-THE-SOUND

Serving in Worship
We encourage all to find their place within the traditional worship of The Episcopal Church, and for many, that includes serving in worship ministries. Whether offering care behind the scenes or serving in visible roles on Sunday morning, we believe that all are called to share in the Church’s ministry. As the Book of Common Prayer reminds us, all the baptized are called “to represent Christ and his Church; to bear witness to him wherever we may be; and, according to the gifts given us, to carry on Christ’s work of reconciliation in the world, and to take our place in the life, worship, and governance of the Church” (Catechism, Book of Common Prayer, p. 855).
Acolytes

Acolytes stand alongside and assist the clergy during services. From carrying candles, the cross, and the Gospel Book during the processional to assisting with the preparation of the table, this role is vital to every service in The Episcopal Church. Anyone may serve as an acolyte, beginning in the third grade. Training is provided each year.
Choir

The choir enriches our worship through music that supports prayer, proclaims the Gospel, and draws the congregation more deeply into the liturgy. Choir members of varied musical backgrounds are welcome, offering their voices in service to God and the Church while fostering fellowship, joy, and shared devotion through song.
Lay Readers

Lay Readers are trained in the ancient practice to read our lessons from the Bible during our worship services. There is no age requirement for this ministry. We encourage people to serve who are committed to practicing enough to be able to read loud and clear for the whole church to hear.
Altar Guild

This ministry welcomes all ages. The Altar Guild maintains and prepares the Altar and worship space for each service. Each person is assigned to a team and each team serves one weekend per month. Saturday morning the team gathers to prepare the church for Sunday, this may include polishing silver, changing the linens, setting the table, distributing the bulletins, and other preparatory tasks. After the service, Altar Guild members reset the table and prepare for the next service and/or clean up the communion vessels and return them to storage. Training is provided.
Greeters & Ushers

Greeters and Ushers ensure all who come to worship feel welcome and answer any questions they may have. Greeters stand at the main entrances to say “good morning!” to everyone entering the church. Ushers continue the welcome, offer a bulletin, and help churchgoers find a seat. Ushers also help with “traffic flow” during the service, and are there to assist in any needs in the worshiping community.
