ON-THE-SOUND
About this Outreach
Domestic Violence Shelter and Services, Inc. has served the Wilmington community for nearly four decades, empowering survivors of domestic violence and their families to break the cycle of abuse and rebuild their lives with dignity. The organization provides confidential emergency shelter, 24-hour crisis support, case management, advocacy, peer support, safety planning, and educational resources for individuals and families affected by domestic violence.
In addition to direct support services, Domestic Violence Shelter and Services raises awareness, offers prevention programming, and operates community resale shops whose proceeds help sustain their mission. They also maintain The Open Gate—a visible public center offering a welcoming space for outreach and information (while the actual shelter remains at a confidential location to protect safety).
During their summer paper product drive, essential items that are often overlooked—such as tissues, paper towels, and toiletries—are collected and given to those seeking safety and support. These everyday supplies can be a meaningful and practical expression of care for families in crisis. This drive is generously hosted by the Episcopal Church Women as a community outreach effort to help meet immediate needs with compassion and respect.
