Most importantly, I am grateful to the people of St. Andrew’s for allowing me into your lives, for this ever-brief period of time. You have made Teresa and me feel welcome. You are blessed to have called a good priest. Allow him the grace to make mistakes, make changes, and grow with you. God has great things in store for St. Andrew’s On-the-Sound. At St. Andrew’s, worshippers often light candles on the votive rack as a physical expression of prayer and devotion. The word “votive” comes from the Latin votum, meaning promise or prayer, symbolizing prayers offered before God. The flickering flame represents faith, God’s presence, and the belief that prayers continue even after the worshipper leaves the church, serving as a quiet, tangible reminder of spiritual connection.
