A Special Thank You to Mike Larson!

A heartfelt thank-you to St. Andrew’s parishioner Mike Larson for his ongoing dedication to helping our neighbors in need! Mike regularly picks up donated food from Trader Joe’s and delivers it to Wilmington’s Good Shepherd Center, ensuring that good food reaches those who need it most.
Founded in 1983, Good Shepherd Center has grown from a small soup kitchen into one of the Cape Fear region’s leading organizations serving people experiencing hunger and homelessness. Today, the center provides nutritious meals, emergency shelter, medical care, and assistance in finding stable housing. Through its Second Helpings food rescue program, volunteers collect surplus food from local grocery stores, restaurants, and bakeries, redirecting approximately 500 tons of usable food each year to feed those in need.
St. Andrew’s connection to Good Shepherd stretches back more than 40 years. According to our parish history, The First 100 Years, St. Andrew’s parishioners were among the volunteers who helped prepare and serve meals when the ministry began at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in downtown Wilmington in 1983. Over the decades, parishioners have continued supporting the center through meal preparation, food collection and delivery, financial contributions, and other outreach efforts. Mike’s faithful service continues this longstanding tradition of caring for our neighbors.
We are grateful for Mike’s generosity, time, and commitment to this important ministry. If you would like to lend a hand by joining Mike on his delivery route, additional volunteers are always welcome!
Thank you, Mike, for putting faith into action and making a meaningful difference in our community!
