Children's Ministry - Rogation Sunday: Walking, Praying, and Giving Thanks

Updated: 2 days ago

Sunday, May 10 | 9:00 a.m.

Children, parents, and all are invited to join us for a special Rogation Sunday gathering. Rogation Days are a long-held Christian tradition, dating back many centuries, when communities would walk the land, offer prayers, and ask God’s blessing on the earth and all who depend on it. This year, we’re honoring that tradition in a meaningful, hands-on way for our community.

We’ll begin at 9:00 a.m. inside the church, then move on to a simple outdoor liturgy while “walking the bounds” of our church grounds. Along the way, we’ll pause to pray in gratitude for the gifts of creation and for the people whose labor sustains our daily lives, including the farmers, builders, fishermen, and all who help provide what we need.

In the weeks leading up to this day, children will be preparing decorated crosses to place at special points around our campus. We will also be collecting donations for Willowdale Urban Farm and will gather to bless these offerings before they are delivered. A volunteer sign up will be available to volunteer with Caroline at the farm!

As part of this season of growth and care, we will also be sharing small, planted pots, filled with blessed soil and healing herbs, as a reminder to nurture life, both within our homes and in the world around us. These will be available for anyone who would like to take one home, in the spirit of Mother’s Day and the many ways we give and receive care.

Come walk, pray, and celebrate the goodness of creation together.
